I’m frustrated

Links are opening up new windows instead of tabs.

When I want to open a link in a new tab, the tab only goes to ask.com and the page I want opens in a new window instead. The tab has nothing in the address bar, the the page does show the ask.com search field. I just installed the Thanksgiving theme, and it appears to be conflicting with my tab preferences. Either that or it is conflicting with the TreeStyle Tab addon I have installed. I can open new blank tabs fine, but links that are supposed to open in new tabs are not working properly. I have tried disabling the TreeStyleTab addon and restarting FireFox, but it did not help. The Thanksgiving theme simply will not let new links open in tabs.

  • Thanks for reporting this. We've started to see similar behavior elsewhere, and it seems to have just started. We're starting the investigation now.

  • I'm running Firefox version 3.0.15 if that helps the investigation.

  • Do you have any other booms installed besides thanksgiving? And what other extensions do you have installed?

    Thanks

  • And how are you choosing to open links in new tabs? Right click, open in new tab?

    Thanks

  • I do have other booms, but they are not enabled: Christmas, Halloween, Holiday Boom Pack (which I just noticed was enabled; it must have been enabled when I installed the Thanksgiving Boom because it was disabled yesterday).

I have several other extensions, but the only ones that should affect tabs are the IE Tab, Faviconize Tab, Context Search (which does still open new pages in new tabs), LastTab, Tab Scope, Tab to Window, Tree Style Tab (which I disabled after this issue cropped up), and Undo Closed Tabs Button.

I have my Firefox Preferences set so that when I click on a link it always opens in a new tab, unless the link has specific instructions to force it to open in a separate window, or popup. When I single-left-click on any link it is supposed to open in a separate tab. This had been working perfectly until I installed the Thankigiving Boom. Context search opens pages in tabs, as to use that I highlight a word or phrase, then right-click to choose a search engine. This then opens a new search in a new tab using that search-phrase. I can also use the keyboard shortcut ctr-t to open a new empty tab and then type in a URL.

If it's a matter of disabling all the other extensions to get the theme working, I would rather not use the theme at all, as I will only use that temporarily. Everything else I use constantly and long-term. This is my work computer, so many of the extensions are used all day long for specific tasks while I am assisting customers. I can disable stuff temporarily for testing purposes, but I will not leave them disabled for long, especially if disabling them does not help the situation.

  • OK, I've disabled the Holiday Boom Pack, LastTab, and Tab to Window, as I don't use those extensions as much as the others, and the links/new pages now open properly in tabs. I then re-enabled Tree-Style Tab, as I use it all the time, and new pages/links are still opening correctly in tabs. I then re-enabled LastTab and Tab to Window, so all of my tab-related extensions are back up and running. links/new pages are still opening in new tabs.

It appears the conflict was solely between the Holiday Boom Pack, and the Thanksgiving Boom. The Holiday Boom Pack should not have been enabled previous to installing the Thanksgiving Boom, as I have been using non-boom-related themes for several weeks, so it seems as if it was enabled when the Thanksgiving Boom was installed. But now that it is disabled, things seem to be working.

  • Thanks for your debugging!

I had a feeling it was another boom. We've changed the way we do new tabs with our later booms so these conflicts shouldn't be there anymore.

Holiday still uses the old method.

    Thanks for your help.
