I’m rather annoyed

Can't make theme toolbar stay off, it keeps turning itself back on.

I've asked this before, but I'll ask again. Buffalo Bills theme and toolbar. On Firefox on these platforms (WIndows XP, Windows 7, Linux Mint, Ubuntu). On a laptop, screen real estate is valuable, I have minimal toolbars and bookmarks displayed to conserve space. I like your theme, but when I turn off the toolbar part, I expect it to stay off, but it comes back every two or three times I load FF. I want it to do as I ask, and if I ask that it be off, it should just be off.

  • Sorry to hear this, and more so that you've reported it before. You're right, if it's set to off it should stay that way. I need to inquire if this is a bug or a product limitation. It's possible that there's a collision with another extension.

A couple things that would be helpful to know. Did you get the theme from the Bills site or from addons.mozilla.org (AMO)? We may need to know which extensions you're running.

  • Kevin,
I'm at work, on a Windows 7 64 bit machine running FF 18.0.2 where I'm seeing the same behaviour, the toolbar just randomly turns on at startup. You'd asked what addons are running and I've sent you an email with the Linux FF addons activated. Here are the Windows 7 addons, many of which are identical to what's running on my linux machines at home:
    1. Adblock
    2. Default Theme engine (yours)
    3. Fire gestures
    4. Flagfox
    5. Forecastfox
    6. IE tab
    7. Multirow bookmarks toolbar plus
    8. No script
    9. PDF converter 8
    10. prevent tab overflow 5.2
    11.WOT

Again, thanks for looking into this behaviour. I suspect something's resetting my about:config to some default or previous state. I'm thinking of making pref.js a read-only file as an experiment, but then if I need to change something, it becomes a pain in the ass.

  • Thanks, Jeff. I'm passing along to dev for review.

The email you sent, can you also send directly to me at kevin [at] brandthunder [dot] com? I haven't seen it yet, and want to make sure I do.

    Thanks!

  • I am still trying to recreate this. So I haven't forgotten about you.
